My 2016 Retrospective
Well that’s a wrap, 2016 is done, my biggest year for wedding’s so far.
I have had an absolute blast this year, meeting lots of new people and travelling to many new places. And for me that’s what it’s all about, experiencing new things and places on this crazy roller coaster we call life.
I can’t begin to imagine how many frames I have shot this year, so many moments captured, some sad but mostly happy. One thing I have really tried to improve on this year is getting closer, and capturing those raw, emotional images from a wedding day. I absolutely, 100% think that these images are the ones that couples and their families will look back on in many years to come, and appreciate the moment captured. This has really struck a chord with me. I had the opportunity to photograph my friend Jo’s wedding last September, sadly she lost her battle to cancer just a few weeks ago, the wedding was the last day that she was ok, having fun and spending time with family and friends. That is why I photograph wedding’s, and I hope that is why couples book me. I am not interested in being featured on wedding blogs, or magazines, my main aim is to capture images that couples and their families appreciate, a true record of their wedding day.
So now something on more of a personal level. During 2016 I had the pleasure of meeting and working with some amazing photographers, I don’t need to write a list, you all know who you are. A huge thank you goes out to you all, I have gained so much experience from working with you , and I really do appreciate the hard work that you all put in during the wedding day.
One thing that 2016 has also taught me is that I really couldn’t do any of this without the daily love and support from my wife Sarah, it can be very hard running a business, not just in the creative industry but any industry. She puts up with me when I have had no sleep during the busy wedding season, and stomp around the house like a grumpy old man. She is my biggest critic and also my biggest fan, and I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that I wouldn’t even be writing this post if it wasn’t for her. We are blessed as a family to have 2 beautiful boy’s, the time I get to spend with them is precious, just like the time a bride and groom gets to spend with their loved ones during the wedding day, so never take that for granted.
Well that’s enough of my ramblings for now, I really don’t know what 2017 holds for me, all I know is that I am going to grab every opportunity by the horns, and treasure the fantastic experiences that life throws at me.
Below is a bunch of images from 2016, thanks for taking the time to look through them.
